Most Admired Corporate Cultures

J.V. Driver has been selected as a regional winner in the Most Admired Corporate Cultures program.  What is interesting about this selection is that this is not a program that we entered or that I was even aware of up until we were notified by the award’s organizers.

Unbeknown to us, Sean O'Brien, President of Acklands Grainger, who is a past winner of this award, nominated JVD.  We were then contacted by the selection committee and interviewed by Martin Parker a Managing Director of Waterstone Human Capital who is one of the adjudicators of the award.

I believe that our culture is one of the strengths of the company but I have often wondered if I was really giving it an honest assessment or simply looking at things through rose coloured glasses.  Therefore i found it very heartening that impartial third parties have agreed.

One of Sean's comments to me when i thanked him for the nomination was "I have always been impressed with your organization, team members and the contribution JV Drivers makes to the community."  The fact that Sean, who is a complete outsider to the company, noticed these things and then felt strong enough about them to nominate us speaks volumes.  During the interview, Martin Parker often expressed surprise and admiration for many of the programs and initiatives that we are working on, all of which define J.V. Driver.

I don't think we are perfect and culture is not something that you can perfect...it is simply who we are at JVD.  But the fact that someone else thinks enough of our culture to give us an award is something I think we should all feel proud about.

The Stollery

You may not know because I’m not sure we’ve done a good job sharing but JVD have been a big supporter of the Stollery Children’s hospital for several years.  The Stollery is a world class facility that helps sick children within our community.  You can’t help but be touched when you meet and hear the stories from the families that have had care provided by the Stollery.  Some interesting facts about the Stollery include:
o    It is more than a regional service as approximately 40% of children treated at the Stollery are from outside of the Capital Region.
o    It helps a lot of families as there are more than 1,400 admissions to the Neonatal I.C.U. annually.
o    Close to 300 pediatric specialists work at the Stollery providing a vast array of cutting edge medical knowledge.
JVD’s support has included being a Silver Sponsor at their annual Snowflake gala for the past 4 years.  This year JVD increased our support in becoming a Gold sponsor.  To find out more about the Snowflake Gala:  http://www.stollerykids.com/page/Snowflake%20Gala.aspx
Rod Caroca and Tamara Middleton represented J.V. Driver at the announcement of the new pediatric emergency room at the Stollery Children’s Hospital which will make a huge difference to children seeking emergency care.  This event was at the hospital and involved the media, premier, mayor as well as other dignitaries.
J.V. Driver was also a sponsor of the Stollery Radiothon.  Patrick Walker and Lindsey Stringer from JVDF volunteered.  The Radiothon has raised more than $12.1 million for the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation. To find out more about the Radiothon go to:
As a sponsor of the Stollery Foundation we have a star on their donor wall and will be getting a bigger star this year as our sponsorship grows.
Tamara Middleton has had meetings with the Stollery over the course of the year to review how our support is positively impacting the hospital and to discuss how we can further support. The Stollery Foundation is working with us to find innovative ways we can support them that are not just monetary in nature but through volunteering as well.  We agreed, as we thought it would be a chance to live to our Core Value of Taking Care of Each Other while having some Fun.

Welcome

Welcome to the “President’s Post”, a window into the world of JV Driver.

To those not currently members of the JV Driver family, allow me to bring you up to speed. For the past 6 months I have been exploring the world of blogging as a way to keep our people up-to-date with the events and happenings of JV Driver, providing interactive real time news and updates. With this I have received great feedback about the value of this information and the timely manner in which its been delivered; at the same time many have expressed the desire to make some of this information public and allow our clients and potential new recruits a glimpse into the JV Driver Group. So it is with that encouragement in mind that we open our doors to the world and welcome them to experience the JV Driver Culture and Core Values of Building Great Things, Taking Care of Each Other, Being Innovative, and Having Fun.  To accommodate this new initiative we will be releasing a portion of our blogs through multiple media streams. You can follow these blogs on the JV Driver website at www.jvdriver.com, on Blogger at http://jvdriver.blogspot.com/ and on our Facebook page “JV Driver”, please feel to join us on any of these streams to see just what JV Driver has to offer.
